As part of its 2024–2025 Capital Works Program, the Shire of Murray undertook a $300,000 upgrade of Humphrey Park. The council aimed to enhance the park’s functionality, visual appeal and capacity to support community gatherings.
The objective was to provide an inviting, low-maintenance environment where local families could spend time outdoors. Seating and picnic infrastructure needed to be practical, durable and well-suited to the park’s natural surroundings.

Project Requirements
The council identified several key priorities:
- A cohesive suite of benches, seats and picnic settings
- Furniture that was low-maintenance, durable and cost-effective
- Designs that would integrate into the existing landscape
- Easy-to-replace components in the event of damage or vandalism
- A strong sustainability focus through material selection
Additionally, Exteria was engaged to supply seating for the recently completed Lovegrove Sports Pavilion, a modern facility overlooking the Sir Ross McLarty ovals.

Our Solution
Exteria supplied the complete Vasse suite for both Humphrey Park and the Lovegrove Pavilion.
Manufactured using a composite material made from recycled plastic and timber, the Vasse range provides a highly durable, low-maintenance alternative to traditional timber furniture. Its charcoal-finished slats deliver a refined, natural look while resisting weathering and wear. The steel frames, hot dip galvanised for maximum longevity, are surface-mounted for ease of installation and long-term performance.

A Lasting Result
The new furniture has significantly enhanced the usability and aesthetic of both locations while the modular nature of the Vasse suite ensured consistency across both sites and allowed for simple batten replacement, reducing maintenance time and costs in the event of vandalism or wear.

At Humphrey Park, the upgraded picnic and play areas now include comfortable, reliable seating that supports informal gatherings and outdoor recreation. The inclusion of shade structures and connected pathways further elevates the site as a valued local destination.
At the Lovegrove Pavilion, Vasse benches provide practical outdoor seating for event attendees and sports spectators, aligning with the facility’s clean, contemporary design

The Shire of Murray, having worked with Exteria on previous projects, selected the Vasse range for its performance, pricing and proven reliability. According to council feedback, the furniture has delivered on all fronts, offering a long-lasting solution that aligns with the shire’s sustainability goals and public amenity standards.
Exteria remains committed to supporting councils and communities through the delivery of high-quality, compliant park seating and public space furniture built for Western Australian conditions.
