City Beach, one of Perth’s premier beach destinations, is a vibrant spot where families and friends gather to enjoy barbecues, picnics, and the stunning coastline. However, the area faced significant challenges due to rotting timber furniture and shelters. The existing infrastructure was inadequate for the community’s needs, leading to numerous complaints. The high maintenance costs associated with timber structures further strained the council’s resources, making the beach less enjoyable for visitors.

How we helped

Recognising that corrosion was a primary issue due to the beach’s proximity to the ocean, we identified the need for more durable materials. Galvanized steel, though resilient in salty environments with proper maintenance, often suffers due to neglect. Timber, while not prone to corrosion, is vulnerable to vandalism, combustion, rotting, and splitting, requiring regular recoating to maintain its appearance.

To address these issues, we introduced our Parkway seats and Gable picnic shelters, which are ideal for family and friend gatherings. Our premium coastal specification includes 20-micron anodised aluminium, stainless steel fasteners, and Colorbond Ultra roofing for shelters. Aluminium, in particular, offers superior resistance to coastal corrosion and requires minimal maintenance, making it a long-term solution for the harsh beach environment.

An outstanding result

Since the installation, City Beach has seen a surge in positive feedback from the community. Visitors appreciate the improved aesthetics and functionality of the new furniture and shelters. The council has also benefited from significantly reduced maintenance costs. The new infrastructure has become an iconic feature of City Beach, enhancing the overall experience for everyone who visits this popular Perth destination.
